A moment worth marking
Our work has reached a national audience.
The Citizen recently featured Miwani Janja in its story, “Tanzanian innovators build AI glasses to empower visually impaired users.” The coverage introduced the team, the accessibility challenge behind our work, and the progress we have made developing our prototypes.
We are grateful for the recognition. More importantly, we are grateful that a wider audience is being invited into a conversation about information access, privacy, and independence for blind people.
What the feature captured
From an idea to technology that can be tested in the real world.
The story traced our progress from the first prototype developed in 2025 to the second prototype released this year. It also highlighted our current focus: refining the product, learning through testing, building the right partnerships, and preparing carefully for production.
Recognition is meaningful. The responsibility to keep listening, testing, and improving matters even more.
The work ahead
This is a milestone, not the finish line.
Miwani Janja remains in development. Our next steps are centred on responsible product refinement, meaningful engagement with blind communities, technical collaboration, and the partnerships required to make the technology more accessible.
We will continue building from Tanzania with the ambition to serve blind communities across Africa—one careful iteration, one honest test, and one strong partnership at a time.
